Yes. At least that is what some villagers in the Philippines believe.

On the eve of Easter, about 35 people were nailed down on cross to prove their faith. Yes, I mean they are nailed down on a wooden cross, voluntarily! Even Christ was forced. And this is nothing new: this is going on at least since 1995 and handed down through generation. They do this to celebrate the Holy week, to wash away their sins, and to seek personal help such as curing close relatives. Though this is a big hit among locals and has become a big tourist attraction, all these unapproved crucifixions did not please the Roman Catholic Church. They think it is just a circus and lament the commercialization of the Holy week. None of that has any place in Christianity.

The devotees are vowing to continue self crucifixion. I guess there was no “do not try this at home” sign during crucifixion.
