Would you refuse a free $10 bill?

Yes you might, if it’s your share of the $100 bill your friend found while taking a stroll together.

hum_brain.jpgThough it’s stupid to refuse free money, you would most likely do it since the split was not fair. Doesn’t it sound irrational? Yes it does. And the worse news is that you will make such irrational choices in bigger financial decisions as well. But why so? For a simple reason: your brains are wired that way. Looking at markets and business through the lens of human cognition debunks a lot of popular myths, and provides a fresh perspective on why we act the way we do. Though our understanding of how evolution has shaped human cognition is still in its infancy, it is the only rational approach to understanding our irrationality.

And do not forget. The next time you lose your shirt in the market, blame it on evolution.
