Is there a link between sex and money?

Yes. And we are not talking about any nefarious connection here; we are talking about brain chemistry. A study done at Stanford University showed that we use the same part of the brain for sex and money.

apr08_casino.jpgIt is not a secret that presence of attractive woman makes men take stupid risk: ask any car dealer or casino operator. But a new study finds that it is not just our behavior, but sex and money are connected in our brain. The study focuses on a part of the brain that determines our sense of pleasure, the so called sex and money hub. Young men were shown pictures and asked to bet on a random game. When erotic images were shown, they took larger financial gamble compared to when they were shown pictures that were scary or neutral. The part of the brain that lights up when we see arousing pictures and when we take financial risks is the same. The researchers say that from evolutionary point men have the same needs for money and sex. Another study from Harvard University shows that higher testosterone levels lead to higher financial risk taking.

Is this true for women too? Researchers could not say, since they did not find images that are guaranteed to excite women. But if sex does not induce stupid financial decisions for women, I think they should use shoes instead. I have a feeling it might just work for women.

  1. girls are impressed with money that is why we spend it. to get a girl you need to take a bit to risk. there is nothing wrong with that. to get the honey, you need to spend the money.
