When we get a heart, does it come with its own mind?
It might seem that way. A man shot himself. A dying man got his heart and lived. Twelve years later he shot himself exactly the same way. Is that just a coincidence or a cardiac connection?
Sonny Graham was about to die from heart failure in 1995. Terry Cottle did not have the heart to live any longer. So he took a gun to his head. Sonny got his heart and lived. He was grateful for his second chance in life and contacted Cheryl, Terry’s widow, to thank. Over the years they became close, and Sonny bought Cheryl and her four children a house as a gesture of his gratitude. When Sonny retired in 2004, they got married. They were happy and had a big family with six children. Things could not have been better until Sonny was found dead at his Vidalia, GA, home. Twelve years after getting the heart, at the age of 69, Sonny too shot himself.
No one knows why. Is this what Pascal meant when he wrote: The heart has its reasons, of which the mind knows nothing about.
