Does faith in god make people faithful to their spouse?
Not a chance. A new study found that except for attending regular religious services, other religious activities such as prayer, strong faith in god, and belief in the importance of religion do not make anyone more faithful to their spouse.
On the contrary, those who talk about importance of religion but do not practise would cheat more often than others: four times more than those who attend services regularly. Even if someone prays regularly, have faith in god, and say religion is important to their lives, they can be cheaters like anyone else. The only sure sign of faithfulness is the visit to the church: people who attend services somewhat regularly are less likely to cheat on their spouse. Scientists think it is because shared experiences of couple going to church together help form strong bonds and build social network with the community. So religious services such as Sunday Mass serve couples in more ways than they can imagine.
Is it not obvious that those who talk religion but do not act religious would also talk about being faithful but won’t keep their words?
