Ever since the ban on whaling went into effect in 1985, Japanese whaling industry has been using a loophole International Whaling Commission’s ban that allows whales to be captured for research purposes . If you went to the Japanese whaling association’s website, all you’ll get to see if vague claims statements about the need for lethal research. Even if you were to take their made up reasons for needing to kill the whales to do research on them, it’s not at all clear as to what kind of research would require close to 1000 whales a year! And the Japanese have been getting away with this for more than two decades. As with everything else in fine there is one set of rules for the rich and another the poor.
